Forest School

Forest school

 'Turning ordinary into extraordinary'
Our Forest School activities run all year round, come rain or shine and is an exciting and different way to learn, allowing the children to experience diverse surroundings.

The benefits of forest school for your child

Our Forest School activities encourage interactions with the world and others around them. Taking the children to the woodland is a great way for them to learn new experiences where we encourage them to explore, play games and learn about the outdoors. During Forest School we partake in many different activities including changing of the seasons, exploring safe boundaries, cooking on an open fire, whittling, sawing, chopping and much more. We want children to practice and learn taking acceptable risks and understand their own limits.

Our fire pit area

An addition to our wonderful garden space is our designated fire pit area, which we lovingly handmade from scratch. The children help us collect our fire wood we need from the woods, situated just passed the fields out the back of our nursery. We have our BBQ style fire where the children can cook and toast their own snacks alongside a Forest School trained practitioner, or we can simply use the Kelly Kettle to make some hot chocolate.

We have all the equipment we need to remain safe during a Forest School sessions and an outside handwashing facility. This simple activity has a magnitude of learning involved for the children some of which include, learning rules and boundaries around safety, builds self-esteem and confidence as we introduce the children to new experiences and trust in their abilities and cause and effect of elements.

We also have our bug hotel, made by us and the children using authentic materials we collected such as bricks, sticks and wood. Through the seasons we can find all types of minibeasts, some of which we carefully study while teaching the children care and respect for all creatures for example we responsibly source caterpillars and watch them transform from chrysalis into butterflies. We use a range of factual books to gain an understanding of life cycles and introduce activities that extend on children's knowledge of the world.

Woodwork and life skills

We provide unique, magical experiences for all children with meaningful intent behind everything we do. Investing time and providing new opportunities in our daily provision.

The lost tradition of using authentic resources is not lost on us. As part of daily provision at Kids Capers, our woodwork activities are far more valuable than plastic, purpose built toys. Our children are learning rules, boundaries, safety, techniques, building confidence, bringing their ideas to life and so much more.
